Memories of Mogadishu Conference. In partnership with the Ottawa Art Gallery, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), MCIS Language Solutions, Carleton University, TakingITGlobal and Concordia University, this conference will explore the use of oral history and digital archives in preserving cultural heritage and collective memory in post-conflict societies. The Memories of Mogadishu initative examines the use of memory in the reconstruction of a once cosmopolitan city by the global Somali diaspora. Through the use of oral history in combination of archival footage and personal interviews the goal of project is to document the collective memory of the pre-civil war city.
