Ottawa Youth Poetry Slam presents....BEAT SLAM: "Beatboxing and Poetry Workshop". These two days of Workshops for youth (aged 20 and under) will present beatboxers and spoken word artists together. This is the first experimental workshop series ever in Canada that unites and examines these two vocal art forms. Facilitated by Poet/mc Ian Keteku and Poet/beatboxer Eddy Da Original. Day one: Saturday January 8th, participants will be doing 2 hours of beatbox or slam poetry and then coming together to combine the two art forms in the third hour. And then perform in the last hour. Day two: Sunday, January 9th, participants are encouraged to come back and try out the other art form, in the same format. Participants will have to write a piece in the workshop, so that they can collaborate with their beatbox partner. In the last hour of each workshop there will be an open jam session for all beatboxers and spoken word artists. Amateurs and pros, all ages! The 2nd edition of CipherSlam will be featuring Greg Frankson's release of volume 2 of his 3 part Poet Psychology collection. Greg Frankson a.k.a. Ritallin is an author, spoken word artist, show organizer, creative services consultant and arts educator based in Ottawa, Ontario. He is a past National Director and currently the Vice-Chair of the Board for Spoken Word Canada, producers of the annual Canadian Festival of Spoken Word.... Greg is also the Poet Laureate for the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership (IIMHL). Through his creative services consultancy Cytopoetics, Greg works with young people in schools and community settings as a presenter and performer, and with businesses and social services organizations as a facilitator, keynote speaker, emcee and creative services consultant.
