Generation Now: What It's Like Being Young, Somali and Male in Ottawa. Generation Now is a new event series organized by Muslim Link in partnership with the Ottawa Muslim Association (OMA)'s Hall of Peace - Ottawa Youth Centre (241 Northwestern Avenue). The series puts the spotlight on young Muslims in Ottawa whose life experiences, education, and achievements, are making them important changemakers in our community today.
This series will be of benefit to youth, community organizers, youth workers, and members of the wider community who want to get a better understanding of the creative and resilient ways young Muslims are changing Ottawa and Canada to make it a city and a country they can call home. Our first event, "What It's Like Being Young, Somali and Male in Ottawa", brings together three young men who will share their personal journeys growing up in Ottawa navigating the second generation refugee experience, Ottawa's unequitable education system, racism, Islamophobia, the criminal justice system, and the challenge of growing up to be "real men". Speakers include: Khalid Egeh, Mahdi Hassan, Kamal Hakim aka Cannon2x.
