Aga Khan Foundation Canada 27th annual World Partnership Walk - This 5km Walk is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) which supports programs in health, education and rural development, as well as supporting community-based organizations in Asia and Africa. For example, AFKC in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) supported education initiatives in East Africa that look beyond the provision of basic primary education to early childhood development, teacher training and education policy. At the outskirts of Mombassa, Kenya, the AKFC is training local women to become teachers and providing advice and training to an elected school management program. The group collects tuition fees, pays teachers' salaries, provides the Children with a nutritious daily meal, and mediates conflicts. In 2010, the Ottawa Walk raised over $200,000, and throughout Canada, approximately $7 million was raised - 100% of funds raised help combat global poverty. Join the Ottawa Walk Day – there’s no registration fee, and you can “Walk the Walk” in support of a great cause! Join the brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in the 2011 JDRF- TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the worldwide leader in funding research to cure type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, but lasts a lifetime. JDRF sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder of, ...and advocate for, diabetes science worldwide. JDRF’s mission has been constant since it was founded four decades ago: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Until a cure is found, JDRF is also committed to working tirelessly to develop new and better treatments to improve the lives of people who have type 1 diabetes and keep them as healthy as possible. Our Organization would like to personally invite members of the Ottawa community and surrounding regions to join our team and help the over 300,000 Canadians living with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. As a team, we are hoping to raise a minimum of $ 2,000 to support the JDRF. The walk takes place on Sunday, June 12th, 2011 at Queen Juliana Park in Ottawa (Preston & Carling area, opposite Dow's Lake Pavilion).
