Pluralism Forum - Pluralism and Public Accountability: Implementing Kenya’s 2010 Constitution. Book Launch for Ethnicity, Nationhood and Pluralism: Kenyan Perspectives, Yash Ghai & Jill Cottrell Ghai, Eds. (Nairobi: Katiba Institute/Global Centre for Pluralism, 2013) Following devastating inter-ethnic violence in 2007-08, Kenya adopted a new Constitution in 2010. Kenya is now at a crossroads, between the popularity and expectations of a new Constitution, and the challenges of reconciling diversity with a common identity. Along with creating new governance arrangements and institutions, the Constitution seeks to give Kenyans a shared stake in the country’s future. Given the history and effects of ethnic politics in Kenya, what challenges face the implementation of the Constitution? Does political will exist to dismantle ethnically-based political mobilization, and what role might greater public accountability mechanisms play? REGISTER at www.pluralism.ca

AROHA : A tool for building and sustaining a good life for people with disabilities! AROHAs: What are they? Who can they help? Wherever they live, families with a disabled son or daughter are often stressed by the same sorts of things. Ensuring that this vulnerable person they love is safe, secure and respected. And of course, worrying about how, even if they solve all of these problems for today, the solutions could be sustained in the future, when the parents are gone. Aroha is the “legal core” to the circle of friends. Being legal entities, they can enter into contracts and in other ways look out for the interests of the person at their centre in ways that an association of friends cannot. They are sometimes referred to as Microboards. Registration: COST: $35.00 – Lunch included Purchase Ticket here: http://guestli.st/234660
