Internationally acclaimed, award-winning Jamaican-born writer, Olive Senior, winner of the 1987 Commonwealth Writers Prize, will be reading in the Tree Reading Series. Those who attended her 1995 reading from her Discerner of Hearts in Ottawa, staged by Third World Players and The National Library of Canada, and listeners to ‘Third World Players Present’ who have heard our 2004 broadcasts with her about, among other things, her collection of poetry Gardening in the Tropics will recall how engaging a reader and speaker is this alumna of Carleton University who is, as well, a writer of works on Caribbean social and cultural history, including Working Miracles: Women’s Lives in the English-Speaking Caribbean and the Encyclopedia of Jamaican Heritage (She is, as some will remember, a former editor of The Jamaica Journal).
