BOOK LAUNCH: The Canadian War Museum and UBC Press invite you to a book launch featuring authors Peter Kasura, Richard Reid, Graham Broad, and Isabel Campbell. These authors are among Canada’s finest military historians. Please join us for an evening of talks and stimulating discussion about Canada’s military history. The books being launched are part of the Studies in Canadian Military History series, published by UBC Press in association with the Canadian War Museum. One of the books featured is "African Canadians in Union Blue: Volunteering for the Cause in the Civil War", by Richard M. Reid. What compelled these men to leave the relative comfort and safety of home to fight in a foreign war? The author discovers a group of men whose courage and contributions open a window on the changing nature of the Civil War and the ties that held black communities together even as the borders around them shifted and were torn asunder.
