FILM: screening of the documentary "German Town: The Lost Story Of Seaford Town Jamaica", directed and produced by David Ritter. Running time 55 mins. Synopsis - "German Town The Lost Story Of Seaford Town Jamaica" is a documentary that explores the history of German heritage within Westmoreland Jamaica. Octopus Books Centretown - 2nd Floor, 251 Bank St., Ottawa
Film Screening: In partnership with Cinema Politica, Octopus Books presents "Revolutionary Medicine - a Story of the First Garífuna Hospital" a documentary directed by Beth Geglia & Jesse Freeston. Revolutionary Medicine is an inspiring film about a community that got fed up and just built their own hospital. Could a remote hospital that runs on solar panels, in a community without paved roads or electricity, provide a global model for health care? Since arriving in Honduras in 1797, the Garifuna people have struggled against exclusion, discrimination and dispossession of their land. Today, their first hospital provides holistic care, for free, without receiving a cent from the government. This is a story of how and why they do it. Adrienne Silnicki, the National Coordinator of the Canadian Health Coalition, will join us for this inspiring film and a vivid discussion about health care! Along the way, he spotlights the incredibly dangerous work that is often required to safeguard the environment.” Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZlz_4iUKBs
